Allan Forrest (1885-1941)

Allan Forrest, Silent Film Star

Allan Forrest was born Allan Forrest Fisher on September 5th, 1885 in Brooklyn, New York, and moved to Cleveland, Ohio while he was just a boy. After finishing school there he entered a stock company, and played for several years in that city and in Baltimore, Maryland, gaining valuable acting experience. After several years he moved to Santa Barbara, California, and became affiliated with the American Film Company. He remained with them for three years before freelancing with other studios.

Allan is primarily remembered for his romantic lead screen work opposite beautiful ingenue star Mary Miles Minter, with whom he had an excellent professional and personal rapport. She stated publicly that Allan was her favorite leading man. Two of their films together survive: “The Ghost Of Rosy Taylor” and “The Eyes Of Julia Deep” (both released in 1919). Allan was a good athlete and was a member of the Los Angeles Athletic Club, as were many prestigious silent screen male actors of the era. His first wife was Ann Little, a popular actress who played in serials. After their divorce in 1918 he married Lottie Pickford in 1922 and became the brother-in-law of Mary Pickford and Jack Pickford. He was divorced from Lottie in 1928. Allan made four sound films and then retired from the screen in 1932, concentrating on stage acting again, until he died in Detroit, Michigan, on July 25th, 1941 from heart failure. ~ Copyright © 2004
