Owen Moore - Silent Movie Actor - goldensilents.com

Owen Moore (1886-1939)

Silent screen actor Owen Moore was born on December 12th, 1886, in County Meath, Ireland, and moved to Toledo, Ohio in America with his parents and brothers and sisters at age 11. Handsome, with reddish hair and Irish features, Owen became interested in theater early in his life, and started performing on stage as a teenager, as did several of his siblings. He entered films in 1908, and worked at several of the first movie studios, including Biograph and Imp Studios, as well as Reliance-Majestic and others. Owen appeared in many of D. W. Griffith's early films, and was a romantic favorite with the females in the audience. He was Mary Pickford's primary leading man at the start of her career, and they secretly married in 1911, so as not to inspire the anger of their respective fans. Mary left Owen for Douglas Fairbanks, after meeting Fairbanks on a World War One Liberty Bond tour, and Mary and Owen divorced in 1920. A couple of years later he met and married silent film actress Katherine Perry, a marriage that would last until his death. Owen's career began to slow after the coming of sound. His last film would be Janet Gaynor's "A Star Is Born" (1937), playing a movie director. Owen's brothers Tom and Matt Moore were also popular actors around the same time. The three brothers appeared together in one feature film: "Side Street" (1929). Owen Moore died suddenly from a heart attack on June 9th, 1939 in Beverly Hills, California. ~ Copyright © 2004 goldensilents.com
Vintage Bio from "Who's Who On The Screen" (1920): "Like many other stage and screen stars, Owen Moore is a son of Erin. When eleven years old Owen arrived in America and a year later found him behind the footlights. He first attended school in Toledo, Ohio. More than ten years ago he sensed the possibilities of the screen and joined the old Biograph company. Some of his best pictures were “The Crimson Gardenia” from the story of Rex Beach and his recent Selznick picture “Piccadilly Jim.” Mr. Moore is an ardent follower of athletics, being a fan at the ball parks, hiker and golfer, as his many trophies will prove. He is five feet ten inches high, weighs a hundred and forty pounds, and has dark hair and eyes."
